Community Action Dacorum currently hosts the Dacorum Domestic Violence Forum (DDVF) which is a partnership grouping of local agencies, both statutory and voluntary with an interest in domestic violence. The Forum meets quarterly at the Sunflower Centre in Hemel Hempstead and exists to provide a joined up approach to combating domestic violence and does this by providing advice, training and support in the local community.
The Forum aims to meet the needs of people affected by domestic violence in the Dacorum area by:
- Increasing awareness of domestic violence in statutory and voluntary sector organisations and in the community.
- Promoting and maintaining co-operation and joint action.
- Seeking to improve services and responses to all those who have experienced or are experiencing domestic violence.
- Making representation where appropriate to local or national organisations on issues and policies relating to domestic violence.
DDVF currently supports the work of the "Behind Closed Doors" programme delivered by the ACT (Action on Family Relationships) Project. Working with children aged 13-17 in local secondary schools this programme aims to provide a safe environment to explore what factors can contribute to the development of abusive or violent relationships. Through the use of drama and an interactive workshop this programme is focussed on prevention and targeted at young people who are beginning to formulate adult relationships.
